NANCY
HEATHER
My first exposure to Guinea Pigs was when I purchased BINGO for my mother(Nancy) for Christmas, she saw him in the pet store and started talking about the GP she had as a kid. I thought she was nuts, how could this animal that just hides under an igloo possibly be any fun? But I could tell she really liked him and Christmas was right around the corner so I decided I would surprise her. Turned out I was the one in for a surprise, after just a few days of taking care of BINGO his personality came out and he showed me just how sweet and personable GPs can be and I was hooked.
My first GP was Squeaky and soon after I got Slick, they shared a large cage separated with a divider until one morning I awoke to find that the divider had been chewed through, a little over two months latter I was blessed with Stumepeg. Slick was always sickly looking and shortly before Stumepeg was born he died, so I had Stumepeg neutered and he and mom Squeaky lived happily together until they both eventually died of old age.
I went a few years without any GPs but while working at an Animal Shelter we had a large group of Peruvian's come in, the shelter did not have the facilities to house them all so I took the oldest two boars home, they were both five years old and I knew the likelihood of them being adopted was small so they lived out the rest of there days being spoiled and adored.
A few more years went by and I had my daughter who took up most of my time but in 2010 I decided she was old enough to appreciate having a GP. I knew I didn't want an American and was really looking for a Peruvian since I had enjoyed my rescues so much. I checked the local shelters regularly and finally found Boston, he is apparently a Silkie/American mix as he has a smooth medium length coat with just one tuft of long smooth hair on his rear. Boston is a total love who even won over my skeptical Fiancée. Seeing Boston reminded my mom how much she missed having a GP and thats where this whole journey of ours began...
